Seahawks Sunday

We’re headed to the playoffs baby! This is exciting for Seattle Seahawks fans and the city in general. If we keep playing like we have the last few games I think we can make it to the Super Bowl again this year. (Because you know I’m an expert in football and Pete Carroll and I discuss strategy before game day hahaha.) After a bit of a slow start I’m thrilled the Hawks are playing like a championship team.

Within a few months of moving here last year we won the Super Bowl. After the game my friend Amber and I walked a couple blocks down the street from her house to hang out at a bar. Crowds of people were out walking around, cheering, chanting “SEA! HAWKS!” and waving 12th man flags. The bar was packed and there was a glow on the faces of everyone there.

It was electric.

It felt like the whole city and surrounding areas were engrossed in our win. During the celebratory parade that elation boiled over. Thousands of people swarmed the streets to show their support and get a up close glimpse of the Legion of Boom. Then and now the football team is a common topic of conversation. From CEO's to baristas, pride for the team is everywhere.

While I did not watch any of the games last year this season is different. Every Sunday I watch two to three games with my boyfriend Jeff. We don’t just keep up with the Hawks, we’re interested in how all the teams across the league are performing. I particularly like to see how well former Gamecocks are fairing on the main stage.

If you’ve known me for any length of time this is probably surprising. Understandably so. I can follow the action and understand what's happening because I’ve attended dozens of college football games over the years. Specifically at South Carolina State University. I know all the cheers and sitting by the band (Marching 101) is a must. And who doesn't love tailgating?

But in college and later in life football was not on my priority list. I just didn't pay close attention but I kept myself up to date on the major events. I could talk about basic sports news like who won the Clemson/Carolina game and which teams were headed to the Super Bowl. That’s all changed now.

I’m all in.

I enjoy learning about who the players are off the field. Those bits of information make what they do during games exponentially more interesting to me. Watching teams battle it out on the gridiron is entertaining.

Next year I’m looking forward to joining a fantasy league and actually adjusting my line up each week.
