LEGO time! Get Your Brick On

Seattle Mariners player and Safeco field.
Over the weekend I ventured over to Seattle Center for the BrickCon Exhibition, an annual convention for adult Lego hobbyists from around the world.

Space Needle and Smith Tower.
Dozens of Lego lovers showcased their recreations of local iconic buildings, movie characters, and much more. Leading up to the event I was neutral about going. I loved the Lego movie and enjoy playing the video game but little did I know I would get SO EXCITED by all the models.

We’re talking oooohhhhhs and ahhhhhhs. The whole nine.

I basically turned into a small child. All wide-eyed with a high pitched voice.

Organizers knew what they were doing by placing models of two easily recognizable structures at the front and to the right - the Space Needle and the Smith Tower. No skyline photograph of Seattle is complete without the Space Needle and the Smith Tower is rich with history. It used to be the tallest building on the West Coast.

I immediately began taking pictures and without a second thought I ditched my crew – Jeff, Jamie, and James.

I was on a mission to get lots of pictures and explore.

Many of the models were intricate and life like. One of my favorites was R2-D2. It was an exact replica of the real thing. It beeped, moved around, and could shoot out a light saber. There was consistently a large crowd gathered around it.

R2-D2!
Of course.

It was impressive.

Whether you’re a Star Wars fan or not there’s no denying the talent necessary to construct it. There were plenty of other models I’m sure required hours and hours of work and dedication to complete.

More of my favorites are below.

Getting good pictures proved to be a bit difficult because of the crowd but whenever there was a break I stepped in to get as many unobstructed photos as possible. I also bought the above Lego t-shirt (gotta have a souvenir right?) The exhibition also included a section for kids to build their own models. It was the 14th year for the event and maybe we’ll check it out again next year.

When we walked out James, who is 5-years-old, described it as "the best day of my life." I get it James. It was pretty cool.
