Day trip to Bainbridge Island

View of downtown Seattle from the ferry
The great thing about Seattle is the proximity to other cities and towns that make for great day trips. Sunday I hopped on a ferry to Bainbridge Island for a quick getaway. The weather was gorgeous and the view was amazing.

In August my friends Amber and Jerry are getting married on the island at the Manor House so I accompanied them for a venue walk through with their wedding planner. It’s got a great view of Puget Sound and has a lot of architectural character. I’m really looking forward to seeing it all come together. Should be a fun day!

After the tour we got lunch and walked around. We stopped in a quaint shop where I couldn’t pass up getting a scoop of ice cream; Huckleberry Heaven by Cascade Glacier to be exact. It was delicious and lived up to its name.

The next stop? Adult beverages of course. We stopped by Bainbridge Island Brewing, Fletcher Bay Winery and Island Vintners Winery. At Fletcher Bay Winery we met the owner, Jim. One of his wines is called Patriot Red and it’s got a picture of Francis Marion, The Swamp Fox, on the front. Turns out Jim is from South Carolina! My eyes lit up when he told us. It’s always nice to run into a fellow southerner, especially a South Carolinian. He grew up in Orangeburg and even worked a summer in Myrtle Beach while in college. Small world. We later met his wife who had a HUGE personality. They were a fun couple.

Overall I had a great day on the island and look forward to returning again.
