These days I’m working at an office in Bellevue, WA and I take public transportation to work. Unlike the routes going into downtown (especially at night) it’s usually a calm ride without any craziness.
Well this morning I became a spectacle.
Because
when I do something (good or bad) it's ALL OUT. Always. Gracious.
So
the bus pulls up to my stop. A woman exits first out the back door and I'm
right behind her. For unknown reasons I had trouble navigating the two steps
down to the curb and fell. ALL. THE. WAY. DOWN. Onto the pavement. Which was
wet. Now from what I remember I tried to recover on the way down which just
made it much worse. My feet got all tangled; I think I tried to hold on. All of
it happened so quickly but felt like slow motion. In my head I'm thinking
"NO, NO, NOOOOOO!!!"
As I
lay on the ground, the woman who was in front of me seemed very concerned and
asked if I was okay. The bus driver even got out to check on me. I managed to
get myself up but couldn't quite stand up completely straight because my feet
and ankles hurt so bad. I just wanted to sit back down but there was nowhere to
sit because this stop isn't a major one. Woman and bus driver still hadn't left
even after I got up.
Driver:
Ma'am are you okay?
Me:
Yes
Driver:
Are you sure?
Me:
Yes *pained look* I'll be fine
Driver:
That was bad, I don't want to leave you here.
Me:
*finally standing completely straight* I'll be okay. Well nothing is broken
Driver:
Okay. That's gonna hurt in the morning.
Me:
*looks at wet dirty hands and makes a face* (hoping the back of my pants aren't
going to have a big stain)
Driver:
*brushes off the back of my coat* Are you sure you're okay?
Me:
*deep breath* Yes. I can make it to work fine. Thanks for checking on me
Both
of them left and I limped/hobbled to my job which thankfully wasn't very far
away. I'm glad there was only one other person on the bus when it happened. I'm
also glad it wasn't worse. Looks like I just twisted it pretty badly.
I
don't know what it is with stairs but I've already fallen/slid down the ones at
Jerry and Amber’s three times in the last six months. No injuries on those occasions.
I
need to pull it together! Or Seattle needs to get flatter =)
UPDATE 3/13: Yesterday I drove to work since my foot wasn't quite at 100% and I wasn't sure if I would need to use crutches again. This morning I was back on the bus, same driver.
Me: I'm feeling much better today
Driver: Oh good, you had me worried
I'm surprised he remembered me. Although I probably shouldn't considering how epic it was (hahaha). I plan on officially thanking him. I appreciate his concern.
