I'm Still In

A few days have passed since Super Bowl XLIX. Today the shock and horror of that game ending play is a little easier to accept.

Here we were. Seconds left on the clock and I could taste victory. I just knew we were going to win. We were thisclose. After Jermaine Kearse’s unbelievable catch it seemed like the odds were in our favor. The ball bounced off his body and he still caught it. We gained significant yardage and it put us in a position to defeat the Patriots.
WHOO HOO!!! We – as in Jeff, his Mom, older brother, and daughter – were elated. And of course all the other 12s were just as excited and proud.

Then it happened.

An interception on the one yard line.

*silence in the living room*

No. No, no, no, no, no, no. NO. It can’t be.

It’s been some time since I’ve been upset about the ending of a sporting event. Losing isn’t fun. And we were thisclose.

The call to throw the ball rather than hand it off to Marshawn Lynch will go down in football infamy. It’s going to be talked about/debated/challenged for years to come. I’ll be able to say I was there and wonder along with everyone else what would’ve happened had it been in Lynch’s hands instead.

Head coach Pete Carroll is even experiencing sleepless nights because of the play.

If losing the game wasn't enough. A Seahawks "12/fan" shirt that Jeff ordered for me arrived in the mail the day after the game but it was the WRONG shirt. Talk about adding insult to injury. When we opened it and saw the red trim instead of green we both looked at each other dumbfounded. Receiving a Brady shirt instead just created emotional distress.

I WANT TO BURN IT. *cue the dramatic music*

I have a feeling this "error" was done on purpose.
Wednesday night I went to a beer and burger tasting (which was very good by the way) and I talked with some die hard Hawks fan. As expected the emotions were still very raw. It’s a hard ending to accept.

But it’s not all doom and gloom under the grey skies of Seattle though. Someone posted an ad on Craigslist seeking a time traveling DeLorean. Hilarious. (Click on the picture below so you can read it)

Thankfully we can laugh and recognize life goes on.

Two days after the game Russell Wilson was back at Seattle Children’s Hospital for his weekly visit.

Today Richard Sherman and his girlfriend welcomed their first child into the world. He tweeted “My son sure does know how to make an entrance! 2/5/15... Is it a coincidence or is he just that clever?! Either way I'm ecstatic.”

And the correct shirt is on its way.

While I wish the ending was different, we still had a great season. In comparison to the performance of some other teams in the league our complaints pale in comparison. Try being a Raiders fan. That isn’t pretty.

Now that I’ve paid attention to an entire football season I can chime in on football conversations and offer meaningful contribution. Who would’ve thought? I’m looking forward to next season, especially watching HBO’s Hard Knocks.

UPDATE
The right shirt finally arrived and I love it :)
